Not only can you use this to play back streamed HD content from the Slingbox Pro HD on your HDTV, the Slingcatcher acts as a file dump for tons of file formats as well (DivX, XviD). The third and most innovative feature of the Slingcatcher is its ability to take video from your PC (either a portion of a screen or a specific window) and stream that to the Slingcatcher. It lets you watch YouTube video, ABC HD video, or anything you can play back on your computer—but on your living room HDTV.
We got a hands-on with it earlier in the week and were pretty impressed. Some scenarios that we can think of are:
• Streaming HD from your DVR in your living room to your Slingcatcher in your bedroom.
• Dumping a bunch of BitTorrented DivX/XviD files onto a USB drive, taking it to the Slingcatcher, plugging it in and watching.
• Opening up ABC HD, turning on last night's Lost, and watching it on the TV instead of the computer.
Convenient! [Slingbox]

My father in law just dumped a huge ass TV on me and significant other. I will now sneak this next to the TV, and all will be well...
Wasn't this thing supposed to come out last year? Any date on this thing? Slingmedia talks about the Slingcatcher like it's the giant living in the hillside. It's legend has been passed down through the generations but yet it remains awfully scarce.
Can I plug this in to my TV and watch the feed from the Slingbox I installed in my parent's house?
@St3v3: It was announced at CES 2007 as planned for a late 2007 release. But later in 2007 they announced that it was being pushed back to 2008 because they bit off more than they could chew in product development all at once. It is now slated for 2Q08 @ $249.99.
@canadianco: That is the real question. I'm looking at doing the reverse set-up as my parents would be more comfortable watching my local news (on the other side of the counrty) on their tv, not pc.
I was looking into the TakeTV, but this might be a better solution!
can i use this purely to stream divx/xvid from a nas
@canadianco: Funny that's what I did too (install at parents place) but mixing the two would be sweet. It would be nice to watch cubs games on tv not lappie.
@canadianco: With SlingPlayer for TV you can watch video from any device connected to your Slingbox (cable / satellite / DVR / DVD player). You can use SlingCatcher with your home TV ... or any TV anywhere in the world. Quote from their website
no realmedia support = fail
Can i use this and also watch on pc, or just on tv?
