CES has no shortage of displays. And when MAKE offered us some TV-B-Gone clickers to bring to the show, we pretty much couldn't help ourselves. We shut off a TV. And then another. And then a wall of TVs. And we just couldn't stop. (And Panasonic, you're so lucky that 150-incher didn't have an active IR port.) It was too much fun, but watching this video, we realize it probably made some people's jobs harder, and I don't agree with that (Especially Motorola). We're sorry. That was mean, yet hilarious at the same time.
And you guys are exactly HOW OLD?
:rolls eyes:
awesomeness!!!
Terrible and childish... but still incredibly funny...
not only TV walls, a press presentation? haha!
Man... this just seems like a bad idea. Somehow this has to be illeagl.
This is friggin' hilarious. And at CES? Oh my goodness.
Nothing short of a kudo to Gizmodo.
Have fun getting press passes to another trade show.
Well, thats motorolas press conference ruined.
They could probably sue the pants off of you.
But totally worth it.
I bet you bring laserpointers into movies as well, then let the little brat sitting next to you take the blame.
Lulz! Ok, I did laugh, I too bought one of those devices a few years back and annoyed the hell out of people at my old Bally's gym.
I could appreciate the wall of TV's, but during an actual presentation was a little over the line. I hope you don't get velvet roped next year. Some of those booth people are pretty touchy and have long memories.
funny tho
Holy childish...
TV-B-Gone is good in situations where the TVs are intrusive, but these were for a purpose and you sought to disrupt their purpose.
That said, I laughed.
I'm really glad I have an office door. I just laughed so hard I cried.
You guys are going to get me into trouble at work for laughing!
You guy are so going to get sued...but it was definitely worth the laughs.
p.s. I must have one of those
Just plain EVIL.
LMAO. Funniest shit I've seen all day. Congratulations Gizmodo, you win thar prize!
@Mobius: Agreed. During presentations is over the line. While people are milling around -> I laughed the first time.
Yeah that's funny if you're a 13-year-old boy maybe. People spend a lot of time, effort, and money at these shows presenting things to the public. The public waits patiently to see various press conference, announcements, demos, etc and you think it's funny to try and ruin and disrupt that for your own personal pleasure? And simply just because you can? Pretty classy and professional. Maybe everyone should just go around and do whatever they want because "they can" or think "it's funny". Pathetic.
Dicks.
The random booths, the gamers looking so serious, the wall of TVs, all pretty funny and only mildly unethical.
Motorola's presentation though, that shows some questionable judgment.
In case you were wondering where the line was, before you cross it again, that's where it was.
not funny at all, stupid and childish, i hope you guys don't get passes to the show next year, grow up
Gizmodo is going to get its behind kicked out of the conference and asked not to attend next year. Not to mention the fact that all of the vendors that will possibly refuse to work with you again. In the end the only people who you will end up hurting is your own readers who will have to go to the competition for news since no one in the industry will talk to your site.
Was the video funny, somewhat. Could you have gotten the same laughs by going into a Best Buy and shutting down their video wall, yes.
Mean but funny. Kinda like Pancake Mines...
Hope no one sues you.
@littleSavage:they'd tell you, but then they'd probably have to kill you.
Funny video, but you guys are Jerks.
Really, that guy giving the presentation probably had a nervous breakdown, and it might have hurt investor intrest or something.
Woooooooooow! That takes balls! I'm impressed :) Telling the world, maaaaaybe not the best idea. Either way, hilarious!
Doing the prank... very funny
Posting it on your blog and taking credit for it.... job/funding ending funny
funny but at the same time...do you really want everyone to see what you were up to? interupting presentations. man i can see lawyers sharpening their fangs already.
Ohhh you barstids!!!! LMAO. Just wait till next year when 3000 geeks turn up with these things. Now thats gonna be funny.
Phil
Funny! I wouldn't have admitted on this site though ... start running! :)
Hope you thought it was funny enough to keep laughing when your CES-attending advertisers aim their "AdRev-B-Gone" devices at Giz.
LOL This was great...!!!!
The funiest one is the intel guy looking at both sides with a "WTF" look on his face..
Funny indeed but don't brag about why you don't get a press badge but a blogger one instead.
Absolutely not crossing the line one bit. These trade shows take themselves WAY too seriously. Now I just need to clean the whatachicken off my screen.
Why not just splice Tubgirl onto all of the screens?
Wow guys that is so evil! But the video is pretty damn funny.
I would have a hard time not cracking up while I was doing it, so kudos to Gizmodo's discipline!
Yeah, it's immature...but what's worse? Gizmodo pulling a harmless prank or CES taking itself too seriously?
holy lolcopter that was funny
LOL nice work.
you can be sure that people will be covering up their IRs next year...
lotta wimps in here. this is amazing and funny. sometimes it's fun to bite the hand that feeds you.
actually. They may encourage it and give giz more money because of their guts.
That said. Great job!
Holy shit that was the most funny thing ive ever seen.
I created an account (my first post here) just to give you the ol' thumbs-up. Your brazen balls-y move just got you a reader for life. Edgy. I love it.
Some of you crying "childish" are the very same people that were quick to point out how vile and twisted CES has become. Stick to you guns, I say.
Man, that had me giggling like a child. How childish.
Lol. Nice prank. But... it's kinda messed up. But oh well. Funny ish.
OMG - you jerks! That was awesome!
Yep, .01 cents of electric tape can go a long way covering up that IR receiver!
Can someone package that with the cellphone jammers? I'll buy 1000.
You are brave bloggers. I would be afraid of those companies getting litigious on my ass.
I question taking credit for it and posting on your website. This is the kind of thing you post on youtube and chuckle about to your friends for years to come over beers.
That said... That was pee in your pants comedy right there! Funniest was shutting down the guys screen in guitar hero. Hope he didnt have a high score going!
Since when did Gizmodo commentors become such uptight dickheads?
Jesus lighten up already. This is some funny stuff. What do you care whether or not Giz gets in trouble. They didn't post to boast, they posted to share the hillarity.
I loved it.
Great stuff Giz. The people setting up the displays, and especially the presentations should have preped for this sort of thing, particularly if your job is riding on it. It's not like the TV-B-Gones and universal remotes are some secret. Besides, with all the monitors and gadgets around CES, it's a wonder they aren't inadvertently controlled more often. A little electrical tape goes a long way.
Kinda a dick move screwing with people giving presentations. Hopefully, motorola will balance the karma a bit by being more open with competing sites.
The was the most unprofessional distasteful video you have ever had on your site. I laughed a couple times at the random booth outages, but that was not in the least bit comical during presentations. Peoples careers can be affected, and companies' images tarnished. That was juvenile.
Jesus -- you people who were offended by this should remove the sticks from your asses. It's not like they were doing anything dangerous or turning off TVs with info from the emergency broadcast system being displayed. This is an elecronics trade show fer christ's sake. Who cares? Harumph.
I love those little gadgets. Gonna have to get me one.
:)
So from the guys at a certain formula one sponsor, you had us in tears watching this...
Best video ever!!
our own damn fault for forgetting the black gaff tape over the IR receivers..
Good stuff Giz.
You should have posted this video as an anonymous submission from a gizmo reader. Also, childish and the motorola presentation was WAY over the line.
AWESOME you guys are awesome.
I probably would have sat there all day doing it.
I don't think I'd brag and take credit for this. I can imagine doing it during setup, and then tell them about it. But mid-presentation? I would be furious.
hanspecans:
Yes, it fun. But it's not likely going to feed you again.
