This ring gun is all old-timey, and there's not a lot of info out there about it, which is too bad. I wonder how it actually works, and if it can fire shots without breaking the finger of the wearer. I also wonder how safe it'd be to carry a loaded gun around on your finger, as you could have some pretty horrible accidents fishing around for your keys in your pockets. But I suppose with bullets that small it'd be tough for it to do all too much damage. What do you think, bloodthirsty, gun-loving American commenters?

W00t!
You gotta punch someone in the head and fire at the same moment to deliver an extra kick! ... though, yeah ... I dunno if that's gonna break some skull or piss someone off.
A 6-shooter! *wipes eye and salutes nearest flag* This truly is the greatest country in the world.
Even if it doesn't work well it looks pretty tough.
I bet it would work if you were close enough, e.g. point blank with no jacket on. Looks almost like a .22 short. It wouldn't break your finger, there's not much recoil in those small rimfire shells. I wonder if it was a revolver or if it fired all barrels at once? Reminds me of the old derengers (sp).
Just looking at it i can tell that's there would be little or no recoil, it has a safety switch. It also would be very inaccurate. The bullet wouldn't do much damage so i believe you would have to be up close to use it.
im sure it could fire, and with that size bullet, there wouldn't be much kickback, so your fingers would be fine. The accuracy has got to be AWFUL though. I could see someone snickering and firing this gun 3 feet away, and completely missing the target, possibly hitting a duck behind them.
Please note, this weapon is not for your nervous ring-spinners that take every opportunity to put your rings on different fingers or twirl them around your digits when you've got nothing better to do with your hands. Although the results of having this facing the wrong direction may be comical.
The portable hand cannon looks like the most fun out of all of the weapons on that webpage. Nothing like a cannon attached to some brass knuckles. Now *that* is ingenuity.
Looks like a version of the 22 caliber. I imagine it would be used to leave lead in someone after punching them.
Cool, this could replace my old hand-buzzer!
Just think of the effect it could have when fisting.
The semi-auto version comes out soon. It's brass knuckles that you can feed machine gun rounds into, Rambo style. Until then, you could put one on every finger and and have someone else shoot them for you? Might be a bit awkward though.
Wouldn't this thing get hot and burn your finger?
Looks like it's custom ammunition, as well. I think .17 caliber is the smallest cartridge available, and at that size, the ring would be pretty big.
Your finger would be fine, but I would be a touch worried about the integrity of the metal. Nothing like a hand full o' shrapnel to ruin your day.
Pretty cool piece. Your wrong about that bullet not doing much damage though. .22 rounds are one of the most dangerous bullets out there because the round has enough power to enter the body but usually not enough to leave. So it just bounces around punching holes in your vitals....fun
@jzh797s: Yah, my dad had a tiny replica gun that fired special bullets of about that size. maybe even a .15 or less. Reeeeeally tiny. It was basically a cap gun that shot a tiny piece of metal. But it did get real hot after firing, and the tiny barrel end would burn you. Put a teeeny little dent in our furnace too.
That is too cool for words.
Better off just throwing it at the guy.
It looks like the swiss mini gun which used a similar shell and was relatively harmless.
@jzh797s:
i think that, if you had to use it, that would be the least of your worries.
@thechansen: A david cross reference if I ever saw one ;D
This thing looks like some kind of badass turn-of-the-century werewolf-hunting weapon/accessory.
Hell Yeah!!! Looks like something steampunk would make.
This is the only jewelry Chuck Norris would ever wear.
can it kill?
Hard to tell without anything in the pictures to provide a sense of scale, but that is not a .22, and probably not a .17 either. I suppose if it is a large ring, it may be .17, but I'd guess .15 Either one isn't going to break your finger since there's not a whole lot of powder behind it.
That ammo looks like it is side primed, so it's not exactly something you can pick up at wal-mart. We're talking either antique or custom made.
And I'd imagine something like this was meant to be pressed into the intended victim then fired. The lack on barrels is going to prevent it from having any decent velocity or accuracy.
make that "lack of barrels"
If they could mass produce these in China, they'd make a neat Cracker-Jack toy, or perhaps a McDonald's Happy-Meal promo. After all, what red-blooded American child wouldn't be thrilled?
With enough velocity a grain of rice could kill you. This being said if someone shot you in the ear or eye it may kill you. However you would have to be some damn good shot.
'God Bless the UUUSAAAA!'
Man I love that song.
I can't believe that I'm the first to suggest horrible nut-scratching accident scenarios. You guys are off your game today.
The cartridge is a pinfire ignition type, mid 1800's time frame.
European, not US. cal might be 4.5 or so. A .22 cal is about 6mm so this would be a very small cartridge, but you would not want to get shot in the eye with it!!
Blackpower, very low velocity round
@matto:
Frucci alluded to it in the article...
WOW... screw the TV B-Gones! Your techs should have been sporting the Ring Gun at CES.
Sweet! Forget pepper spray, I am taking that thing next time i head into Grizzly country!
@nutbastard: Too bad he didnt have the balls to say 'nuts'. Thank you, I'll be here all week.
Final Fantasy 8 extra hit combo. Punch, hit X button at the same time for massive damage
@Bender: "And I'd imagine something like this was meant to be pressed into the intended victim then fired."
Sounds right. I envision it being worn facing into your palm, so it looks like a normal ring. Then you place your hand on the intended victim and hit the trigger with your thumb. OW.
@galavoxx:
Damn, you beat me to it. Definitely Steamish...
@OENOPHILE: False, Chuck never uses guns. It's not because of a moral issue. It's just that all guns cower in fear and back fire when they're in his presence.
This is definitely a very bad idea. That being said, I want one.
is Jason gonna try THAT down his pants?
@mtopper:
... maybe the back.
That's a cool site. Although, I prefer the ladies ring pistol, or the
jeebus gun.
Of course it wouldn't get past airport security. What did you think? It's a gun.
Why only "american commenters" ? are Danish people not good enough for you Giz?? I fart on you!
@D_Zarster: Err... 1. not all countries allow people to have guns, actually not many countries allow so. US is known for allowing.
2. The post talks about prohibition in American Airports.
Steam Punk FTW!!! Where do I get me one of these???
I'd wear one of these on every finger. A one man squad.
Not for me. I pick my nose a lot and don't need anymore nosebleeds than I currently incur.
Here's an idea, and it might be a little extreme, how about just using a gun besides parting your hair while tying your shoes?
actually somebody would be stupid to fire this thing. this this is extremely valuable and probably worth ****loads of cash. This thing was actually something that was in the ripley's believe it or not ripleys vault in one episode a while back
this thing was from the ripleys vault in one of the ripleys believe it or not awhile back so as far as i know, there is only one of these
i'm game. eBay here they come!
Do something similar with a 15 kw pulsed laser and you'd have something... solar powered, of course.
@tdj114: "False, Chuck never uses guns."
explain this or this then!
"Forget it kid, you'll put your eye out"
3 Words...
John Wilkes Booth
I was checking out the site..love the crucifix pistol--keep your faith in God & your crucifix loaded..hehe
@amiash:
Yes, it can kill. As has been mentioned, this is a gun designed to be used at closer than point-blank range. Like pressed into the back or against the skull and fired. Dude shouldn't have crawfished on that bet and called you a liar.
It looks as though it is a six-shooter (as opposed to all being fired at once), but it looks like you'd have to manually rotate the cylinder, which doesn't make much sense. It would be more effective, I think, if all six went off at once. Like a tiny shotgun blast.
Awful damn cool, though.
@MrThunderfield: Gosh no! The TSA would never let something like that happen.
A modern replica of this would be an AOW ( any other weapon ). You would need a federal Form 4 filled out, and pay for a $5 tax stamp as well ... and it ( and you ) would be on the BATFE's NFA list.
Of course, if you made a cap and ball black powder version, it would be completely unregulated. A little longer to load it ... but that wouldn't be a big problem.
in fact it is acually quite powerfull
"The weapon has been shown to knock down a 75 kilogram (165 lb) human dummy from 10 meters away with a single shot" this quite power full for a thing that fits on your finger
