Clearly designed to make the most of the hypochondriac and Curious George in each of us, the Miharu Home Care "intraoral camera" lets you peer at your gums and cavities in gorgeous close-up detail. The battery-powered device even has an LED light so you can see better and plugs into a standard analog video socket so the whole family can watch on TV.
We imagine skipping class with a sore throat may be much harder when your mum can see you're faking, and viewing your back and scalp wouldn't need awkward straining with mirrors. Then there's always, um... insidey parts. We'll mention its disposable covers, and leave the matter there, eh?
The eight-inch long device uses a pinhole lens with an adaptor for skin close-ups, takes AAA batteries and has a six foot spiral video cable. Available for $159. [Redferret]

Insidey parts?!?! O_O Oh my! New fetish in the making!
Hate to say it. But this would be valuable in so many ways, more so than the sophomoric humor ideas that it lends itself to. Looking for things dropped between or under stuff, looking around corners for when chupacabras are chasing you and such. Borecam (gun).
Designed for sliding under cubicle walls to peer up the skirt of that hot little admin assistant and video cast to the entire engineering department.
Will they have an ear attachment? B/c seriously, I would love to know what is in my ears.
Was I the only person who thought that 'into your cavities' meant inside cavities--but not in your mouth?
8 in long device huh are they sure they initially designed this for oral examinations?
We really need to keep this away from the Mod Blog people...
I am ambivalent about spending that much money to look up my own... orifices. Or anyone else's for that matter. I think my co-pay is less to have a professional do it.
Seriously, it's a possible drawback. They came out with home otoscopes (for in the ear) a while back so that parents could see if kids had ear infections. Don't know how many punctured or burst eardrums may have resulted because people didn't go to the doctor when they should have since that was introduced.
Speaking as someone who's set up professional intra-oral cameras in a dental office, I've got to get a hold of one of these. The pro units can cost well over $2K, and if this provides a good enough picture, then I'm rolling out a lot more of them.
could this replace periscopes?
I've seen this before. My dentist started using something like this about a year ago. It's connected to a small LCD monitor that's on a cart. They roll it in and show patients cracked fillings and decayed spots on their teeth that need work. It doesn't really serve any real purpose other than to satisfy a person's curiosity.. but it's still interesting to see.
If that cord plugged into a 2-inch, battery-powered LCD display, I could use this to read serial numbers on the backs of computers without having to move them. During inventory time, something like that would be worth 10 times its weight in gold.
For some reason I doubt that the Japanese made this for the mouth? Am I wrong?
@SBM_from_LA: Actually, Intraoral camera images are frequently saved if an office has a good Digial setup. They can be quite useful in examining frequent sites of decay, as well as monitoring the progress of a patient's personal dental care.
@Noobs-R-Us: After seeing the japanese tool made to examine a person's backside, I think you might be right.
This is better for you pervs out there...

It also works for cheap colonoscopies....
My dentist has one of these and I thought it was the coolest thing ever when he showed me what he was fixing in my mouth on the tv. I would so get one of these. I am a little OCD about stuff in my ears (hair, wax, etc...) so I would use this all the time.
Cnet say it's the "Best consumer level Lemmiwinks remover they've ever seen"
It's a shame the wand isn't longer and thinner so I could use it to watch the roaches play under the cabinets.
Just what I always wanted, my very own Alien Abduction and Probe kit.
"Now, thanks to modern technology, we are able to show you just how disgusting the inside of somebody's mouth can be!"
@DeadWriter, *golf clap* very funny!
