What you're looking at isn't a render or merely a concept of some fanciful building that'll never actually become a reality. No, what you're looking at is an actually photograph of the new Bahrain World Trade Center, a pair of pointy skyscrapers with three propellers with 95 foot diameters between them. And this week, they activated all three turbines at the same time. Now that they're all running, they'll be providing 10-15% of the energy for both towers, which will save loads of money over the years.

Trade center anti-airliner defense cuisinart activated.
Oh man
I do want ... to visit, if nothing else.
with a building of that size they could have even made an investment in solar panels.
at that height, not much is going to block it from receiving the sunlight it needs.
dont stand below if for some reason one would break off...
I'm gonna go ahead and say "awesome!" and then brace myself for the inevitable eco-physics-nerd Debbie Downer "well actually..."
I do predict that the sidewalks below may be covered in more than just pigeon poop, though.
Not only a fantastic idea for energy savings, but a beautiful design to boot. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.
Are you sure they didn't hire Dutch architects?
Shouldn't they be using oil?
Around these parts, we don't let anything with propellors near our buildings.
How ironic... The U.S. has none.
how many different ways can you say awesome?! that thing is gorgeous!
It looks like they designed the building to funnel the air into the turbines, which I've seen done based on natural topography, but not with structures. Not to mention, on pure aesthetics, its pretty kick ass.
@PeteUALaw: I wouldnt want to be in either of those floors in case one of those propellers flies off.
Also, the jokes on them, once we all realize that global warming is fake and they've been saving 10-15% for NOTHING.
Not to sound like a racist prick or anything but... i think we should get some Christian fanatics and give 'em a little payback, if you know what i'm saying
That's a cool idea, but how loud are those propellers?
@B1663R: Good thing you're exempt, due to that awesome preface...
@hooked-on-tronics:
The only sound those turbines make will be from the air they displace as they turn.
and, here's what Western buildings look like ...

@itchytooth: well, just jet engines...
I found this video of the turbines, they don't seem to make much noise:

/not a rickroll
@qbrad: why use their oil when they can sell it to us for truckloads of money.
@phoomp: Doesn't answer my question :(
@geekpi: Answers my question :D
@B1663R: Yeah your not sounding like a racist prick; your sounding like a bigot.
Exactly what did Bahrain did ?
I was think more...colour...like 95' pinwheels...
@riqgeez: 42.
It is truly beautiful though, I agree.
@B1663R: A little "shut the hell up" goes a long way! :)
See it's OK because I put a ":)" in there.
@PeteUALaw: It'd kinda be kewl cause they're spinning. They'd fly out into the building first. Someone call Michael Bay I'd like to see that in a movie... just not his movie only that scene.
@MastaFalse: If your White forget it.
am i the only one who thinks these buildings are ugly as hell?
@DustyButt: It doesnt always have to be "in-the-U.S" you know. ;)
It seemed like a good idea at the time, until other skyscrapers were built next to it...
Unless its the Taipei101, I don't see it working out.
That building is just pure awesome, what the future is supposed to look like.
Beautiful buildings, both design wise and for environmental reasons. However, it did kinda leave me with a bad feeling in my stomach seeing two "twin towers" as a trade center in the middle east. Yes, I know that Bahrain had nothing to do with 09/11. Like a mother who sees a young boy who reminds her of her deceased son, there was a certain amount of resentment and possessiveness mixed into my emotions. Glad for their new building and success. But I long for the capability of the US to finally sever foreign-oil ties with the middle east and other countries.
I wonder what will happen when a turbine blade snaps off...
...if the Bahrain designers and engineers who planed these two towers intended for it to be a tribute of sorts to the twin towers in NYC, then I applaud them and appreciate the gesture. Not aware if this is the case, but I'd appreciate it if it was.
@B1663R: Anyone who starts off a sentence with "Not to sound like a racist prick or anything but..", is about to sound like a racist prick.
BTW - This building is as much of a target to those who perpetrated the acts of 9/11 just because of what it stands for - westernization and capitalism.
@ZRXHawaii: Best post evar!
@Amiash: google "irony" & "9/11"
@DustyButt What a trade center or wind turbines?
Still funded by oil dependence though, pretty much, no? And built by dirt poor people?
why can we do something like that here in the states? dont we have enough tall buildings to?

I hope no Rocs fly into the blades, there are few left.
@GadgetPlay: or pegacorns.
Just image if the building chopped itself down.

Wow, three ginormous bird guillotines.
@B1663R: Thank you, Archie. I haven't heard someone talk with their feet in their proverbial mouth all day! I definitely didn't miss it.
Ingenious design, wish we had something similar in the US. 10-15% may not be much, but I'm sure it adds up in a building that size.
