There's something about the idea of cramming a cellphone into a wristwatch that keeps the designs rolling out, but is this the first one with a touch of style? Possibly, with that metal case and strap, and looking not too horrifically fat to wear. The EP2502 even has a 1.3-inch OLED touchscreen, a 2-megapixel camera, tri-band and Bluetooth support and claims to be shockproof. It's also supposedly the World's first waterproof cellphone, though we don't know to what waterproofing standard.
Here's the full run-down:
•OLED screen: 1.3 inch OLED 260k; resolution:128 x 160px touching panel.
•Water proof, Shock-proof
•Languages: English, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, turkish, portuguese, french, chinese
•Standby english, thailand, dutch, german, russian, vietnamese, chinese, rabbinic, etc.
•Ring tone: 64 polyphonic; support format:mp3/midi/wav
•Incoming ring tone, incoming photo, incoming movie
•Music format: mp3
•Movie format: mp4,full screen
•Camera: 2.0m pixels
•T-flash support: free 512 tf card. extend to 2gb
•Bluetooth function: supported
•Picture format: jpg/gif
Its battery will give you about three hours of talk time and around 160 hours of standby, which seems fairly decent actually. The best bit about this piece of Dick Tracy tech, though, is the price: it's just $299, and is available from May 10th. [Surprising Gift via Howardforums]

That would be a pretty cool watch if it was just a watch, but who needs the rest of that shitty stuff on there?
OK, wait, someone remind me- why do I want to walk around with my wrist up to my face? Even with bluetooth, it seems like the technology has already moved on.
Its a good plan for a batphone, but i wouldn't use it on a regular basis. Either people think your crazy, or people will nickname it the watchy-talkie.
The watch looks nice and the feature list (if everything works properly) is impressive. I still can't shake the feeling that you would look like a total asshat for talking on the phone using your watch. I guess you could use speakerphone, but I am not a supporter of people who talk loud on their cell phones in public or use speakerphone as if we all wanted to hear their damn conversation. The 1.3" OLED touchscreen is making me wonder how impossible it would be to type in a phone number with anyone who has, you know, regular-sized fingers.
Note that this is GSM-only; no support for Verizon's CDMA network. It will fail in the USA for that reason (Verizon has the best cell coverage in the USA, in spite of AT&T's claims to having the best coverage - AT&T's fine print tells you their claim is based on world-wide coverage, and what they don't mention is that it relies on third-party cell towers.
You're all worried about people talking into their writsts looking like idiots. I think just a few years ago, people talking to themselves (bluetooth headsets or even wired ones) looked like idiots too. Now, it's the norm.
I actually like this idea a lot-- but using BT would be essential, otherwise you would definitely end up looking like an idiot.
If the interface is simple, if it has voice dialing, if it's fairly watch-sized (big shiny faced watches are in style) ... then I definitely like it.
A lot of people use their cell as a watch anyway-- if you keep it simple, it seems like a "combination" device that might actually make sense.
Agreed about the necessity of Bluetooth. I think the first one of these things to take off will be the one that looks as good as this does, and includes some sort of detachable BT earpiece. The simplicity of wearing the phone on your wrist is offset by the pain of having to carry around a separate BT headset.
@Guy-Fawkes:
Well that was a laughably absurd statement. Using your logic, all GSM phones would have failed in the US. In fact, all phones on any provider other than VZW -- CDMA or GSM -- would have failed. Way to be a VZW fanboy!
@Guy-Fawkes: "Note that this is GSM-only; no support for Verizon's CDMA network. It will fail in the USA for that reason..."
Yeah. That killed the iPhone too.
Wow, cell phone watch that isn't unwieldy or gaudy? Color me impressed.
It's annoying having people talk on their cells in public so how bad could this be?
wait, no SDHC microSD, just normal microSD? oK, but the rest sounds great.
@med: agreed. Me too likey;-)
@weatherman: hit the nail on the head, and I don't think it's too much pain wearing a bt headset. I mean, a lot of people wear a headset with an mp3-player or a phone attached around their neck... Acutally, this thing looks quite decent. Now, attach that to some sunglasses and you won't even have it dangling around your neck (which can be sort of inconvenient, if you have a not so sedentary lifestyle).
Now, if Oakley could actually come up with a decent attachment to every pair of glasses that would include a bt headset and not make you look like a complete idiot, that would be a great match. And, while we are at it, how about some head-up display love inside the glasses?
Oled screen? So then, this watch is totally useless in the sun, yeah?
"Standby einglish, thailand, dutch, german, russian, vietnamese, chinese, rabbinic, etc." - that's what the product page says. 'Rabbinic standby' - question to Mr. OMG Ponies: wtf is that??? Hehe, I guess, they got their points a bit messed up and meant to say
-standby
-calendar functions: rabbinic (and everybody else)
oK, another thing that is somewhat missing from the list is vibration support. Even the cheaper watch phones on that site have it.
So, can wees haves a super-chique reviews of top super phone model on theez site gizmodo, pleese?
Why don't those Chinese sites get someone with proper English and a more professional distribution philosophy? They can't be that allergic to making a buck...
@conception: last thing I remember OLED was better in the sun than LCD, but I still have no hands-on experiences in that matter, so consider it educated party-talk...
I don't think i would get one but that does look nice. I would like to see it on a rist though... (actual size)
Without a wrist to judge its size by its difficult to know how large or bulky it is... I mean it could be the size of family sedan
But yes I,l take two please , thats a handsome looking gadget
i cant wait to hold my watch to my face why connecting via Bluetooth will look super cool. One day I imagine cans with strings attached to each other, such connectivity can only be imagined.
@yogibimbi: My oled cell phone is totally useless in the sun. It might be because the screen is too shiny, but useless nonetheless. *Shrugs* Though that top picture isn't exactly spewing brightness all over the place.
Call me crazy, but I doubt this 'phone' will live up to a single one of its claims.
A little more details -
[www.asianproducts.com]
And who would want to adopt GSM, I mean it's not like the entire world uses it over TDMA, CDMA. As for best coverage, Verizon certainly doesn't have it in the areas I travel.
How big is it compared to a normal watch , thats the question if its the size of a normal mens watch I'll buy it. If it looks like I strapped a cell phone around my wrist no thank you
@yogibimbi: Rabbinic Standby? Man, the mind reels with what that could mean. And I have too many friends in the Rabbi business to really state what comes to mind, darn it.
bring on teh wrist cancers
@KidDoc: it might be the norm but they still look like idiots.
I want Zac Morris Mortorola phones to come back in vogue. They could put a battery that would last for weeks, a 10 MP camrea with true optical zoom 3"x5" screen, and maybe even one of those little projectors. Now THAT would be a phone!
Something funny about all this--
first there was this phone:
[thegadgetsite.blogspot.com]
which somehow morphed into this phone:
which has specs identical to this new phone?
Here's the company that makes it:
[epodatech.en.alibaba.com]
frequency: 900/1800/1900mhz
Which means in the US, it'll only be a dual band since it can't use the 850mhz of ATT?
And I don't even want to think about the reception on all of the watch phones.. can't be much antenna in them.
Will some reputable site ::coughgizcough:: call bullshit on this already and order the thing for review? It all seems wayyy too good to be true.
