Bill Gates Says Next Windows Coming Next Year or So

A strange quote from Bill Gates today as he claims the next version of Windows, code-named Windows 7, is going to be released "sometime in the next year or so." That's way ahead of the previous estimates, which claimed Windows 7 was not going to be released in 2009 at all, but somewhere in 2010 or 2011. More »

OSX Leopard Finalized?

According to AppleInsider sources, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard has been finalized and is well on target to make its rumored October 26th ship date. However, MacRumors' sources say that Gold Master hasn't been declared yet and "builds are still progressing." This comes in addition to the news that Apple has finished two new builds of Mac OS X 10.4.11, which are likely to be the final update to the Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger operating system. Leopard to Ship on October 26th?

Rumor has it that Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is going to be shipping in just a few weeks on Friday, October 26th. Although it's not very surprising, given that Apple usually releases new OSX versions on the last friday of the release month. If we were betting people, our money would be on the 26th. Wii Launch NYC: Scenes From the Line

Some people waiting in line have gone all out to show their love for Nintendo (see the guy with controllers all over his shirt from earlier), and some are just trying to survive until midnight so they can get their Wiis and get the hell away from Times Square. Both groups have their own certain charm, and part of the fun of standing around on this thankfully unseasonably warm evening is seeing all sorts of different, yet somehow still all crazy, people hanging out together and sharing their passion. Wii Launch NYC: First in line - Triforce, King of the Fanboys

Yes, this is the man they call Triforce, the guy who's been here in Times Square for an excruciating 9 days, on and off. "They kicked me off the line like 5 times, saying you can't be on this block." But my friends, Triforce persisted. "I was tired of getting skipped at other console launches. I haven't been that excited about consoles in a while, but I'm finally excited again about this one." As for what his reward will be for his superhuman patience and unbelievable acceptance of tourist crowds and the strong odors of hobo urine and Gyro carts: "I don't know what Reggie's gonna give me, but I want to share whatever it is with everyone here. I know what we're gonna do though, we're gonna take Reggie and hold him up over our heads and pass him down this line." Here's hoping that comes true. Prepare yourself for Triforce, Reggie. More »

Wii Launch NYC: Segways + Wiis = Dork Utopia

At about 6:15, legions of Wii-equipped Segways and guys with LCD TVs propped above their heads emerged from Toys 'R' Us to titillate and entertain the front section of the line. While the LCD TV guys didn't have much to do other than hand out stickers, the Segways had big ol' TVs on the front hooked up to playable Wiis. Boy, it almost makes sitting on the sidewalk in Times Square all night for no real reason worth it, doesn't it? More »

Are Wii Ready?

The day is finally here. Some of you are planning on standing in long lines tonight to get your hands on some sweet Wii, including our correspondent Adam Frucci. He will be giving the rundown on Nintendo's special NY release party. Why is that not my job? I live in Bodunkville and the lines here are just lines - not cool "we are releasing the Wii in New York so we're cool" parties. More »
