Apple's only mention of any kind of new iPhone hardware (besides the letter they sent us), and mentions of "future product transitions" during its live earnings call: Apple COO Tim Cook made a single reference to "new hardware" for the iPhone.
His answer to a question about driving iPhone units sales across carriers:
The things that we do to drive overall iPhone demand is focused on product innovation. And that's software, that hopefully you saw with the preview that we gave of the new iPhone release that will be coming this summer. It's new hardware and new products. It's new distribution points. It's additional carriers and geographic expansion, which we'll continue to do.
Not out and out, but you know, that they'd put the word "new" anywhere near a reference to iPhone is more than what was expected. [Apple]
