Prolific author Alan Dean Foster has sold the movie rights to his novel Sagramanda: A Novel of Near Future India, to the Hong Kong-based Agog Film Productions. According to Filmbiz Asia, Agog plans to start production “immediately,” filming in Hong Kong and India, and the movie will be out in 2014. (So this isn’t just one of those deals where a movie is optioned and then you never hear about it again.)

The story revolves around a renegade scientist, a psychotic prostitute and a sadistic hitman, who mix corporate espionage with the sleazy worlds of the drugs and sex trades. These are set against a backdrop of Indian culture and cults in a fictionalised, and expanded version of Calcutta.
