The Dyson Gen5detect has a laser that shows you exactly how dirty your floors really are. At a record low nearly $100 below Black Friday, Prime Day is making it very hard to look away.

Dyson’s most powerful cordless vacuum doesn’t discount easily, and when it does, it rarely goes this deep. Prime Day is the exception this year, and it’s a significant one. Amazon has dropped the Gen5detect to $659, down from its $1,049 list price, which is a record low by nearly $100 compared to last Black Friday, and the lowest this machine has ever been sold for. This deal requires a Prime membership, and the 30-day trial runs without a card.

The laser that shows you what you’ve been missing

The Gen5detect’s defining feature is its Fluffy Optic cleaner head, which uses a precisely angled laser to illuminate microscopic dust on hard floors that’s completely invisible under normal lighting. The effect is immediately convincing the first time you use it: you run the vacuum over a floor that looks clean, and the laser reveals a layer of fine dust particles you had no idea were there. Dyson claims the illumination technology reveals 2x more invisible dust on hard floors compared to cleaning without it, and the real-time particle count displayed on the LCD screen confirms exactly how much is being picked up as you move through each area.

The LCD screen is more than a gimmick. It shows the current power mode, remaining run time to the second, maintenance alerts, and a summary of total dust collected at the end of each session. The vacuum also intelligently adapts its suction power based on the debris volume and floor type it detects automatically, with bars on the screen growing and shrinking in real time to show particle removal rates. That means you know when an area is actually clean rather than guessing.

The Digital Motorbar cleaner head handles the other half of the job: deep cleaning across all floor types while actively de-tangling long hair and pet hair during use rather than wrapping it around the brush. The Hair screw tool included in the accessory set does the same for small spaces and upholstery without tangles. Whole-machine HEPA filtration traps 99.99% of particles as small as 0.1 microns, including viruses, and expels cleaner air than what went in.

280AW and 70 minutes for what older Dysons used to cost

The Gen5detect delivers 280 AW of suction power across three power modes with up to 70 minutes of runtime on a single charge. To put that in context, Dyson models from three generations back that launched at this price point offered a fraction of that suction and half the battery life. The Gen5detect is Dyson’s current flagship cordless vacuum, and at $659 it’s now priced closer to where mid-range Dyson models have historically sat than where a top-tier machine would normally land.

The vacuum converts to a handheld with a built-in crevice and dusting tool for continuous cleaning without switching devices, and the four included accessories cover high surfaces, tight spaces, upholstery, and hard floors in a single package. The power button operates for continuous cleaning rather than requiring a trigger hold, which makes longer sessions significantly more comfortable.

A record low that sits nearly $100 below Black Friday pricing on Dyson’s most powerful cordless vacuum is not a number that shows up on a regular schedule. At $659 for 280AW of suction, laser dust detection, 70-minute runtime, and HEPA filtration, the Gen5detect has never been a more compelling purchase than it is right now.
