If you write about movies for a living, you tend to have a lot of friends who talk about weird obscure movies. And in recent weeks, one movie that keeps getting mentioned is The Wailing, a supernatural Korean film by director Na Hong-jin.
The Wailing begins hitting select theaters June 3 and a brand new trailer was just released. Check it out.
And here’s a second trailer, which I prefer.
The film is about a small town in which people randomly start killing each other. When one man’s daughter starts to come down with the same symptoms, he seeks outside help to cut it off at the pass. This makes things exponentially worse.
Apple Trailers ends its description with this:
Over six years in the making, director Na Hong-jin’s meticulously crafted follow-up to the globally acclaimed The Yellow Sea and The Chaser (his third to premiere at the Festival de Cannes) smashed box office records upon its debut in South Korea, where fans are already making return viewings to catch new clues and debate what’s sure to be the most talked-about ending of 2016.
Is this The Usual Suspects of Korean horror films? I don’t know. But I’m certainly intrigued.
