This transport right here is BAE Systems’ Raider, an experimental tank inspired by the Tumbler in The Dark Knight. Its designers based its wheel configuration on Wayne Industries’ cushiest ride.
In a discussion with The Engineer BAE Systems Future Protected Vehicles project leader Hisham Awad openly admitted that the Raider’s design took cues from the Chris Nolan blockbuster:
You see, it turns like a motorbike and it has the same wheel configuration […] In all seriousness, we decided that we didn’t have a monopoly on inspiration, and if we saw something in a film that we thought might be a good idea, why not take a look at it and see if there’s something practical we can develop?
Furthermore, the Raider is a robotic tank. Wait a gosh-darn minute, that’s not the Batmobile. That’s obviously the Hunter Killer from The Terminator. Thanks for nothing, future.
