In Captain America: Civil War, we not only met T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), but his father T’Chaka (John Kani) also played a significant role in things. The family’s getting a matriarch, though, in the form of Angela Bassett.

Bassett will play Ramonda, described in the Marvel announcement as the “mother of T’Challa.” In the comics, Ramonda is the second wife of T’Chaka. T’Challa’s mother died during childbirth and Ramonda was taken prisoner when T’Challa was young. We have no idea if any of that will actually make its way into the movie or if the Queen Mother’s relationship with T’Challa will be simplified.

Black Panther’s scheduled release date is February 16, 2018.
