Just a few days after introducing a 1GB iPod nano, Apple is once again making some changes to its product lineup. This time, Cupertino is eliminating the education market’s eMac and replacing it with a lower-spec’d 17-inch widescreen iMac. What’s surprising is that the replacement iMac isn’t just a glorified doorstop—a 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo processor lies at the heart of the iMac and 512MB of RAM should be enough for most, if not all, of the average student/classroom’s needs.

The eMac was Apple’s last CRT-based system and can still be obtained while supplies last.
The iMac comes with all the bells and whistles that make using Apple’s computers a joy, such as iLife ’06 and an integrated iSight Web cam. It even comes with a Mighty Mouse, which has been a big hit here.
