AT&T Adds Visual Voicemail For U-Verse Landlines

It comes with a few big "ifs"—if you're a U-Verse subscriber, if you have a landline, if you have an iPhone or BlackBerry—but if you meet those preconditions, AT&T's Voicemail Viewer will give your home visual voicemail superpowers.

The free app lets you access home voicemails from your phone, using roughly the same visual voicemail interface that the iPhone employs. You can be alerted whenever someone leaves you a message on your residential landline, email a voicemail from your phone, and add contacts to your smartphone address book.

If you're part of that cross-section of America the app applies to, I can see how it would be a handy service. I'd also be curious to know how many of you are out there. [iTunes]

New AT&T Voicemail Viewer App Delivers Home Phone Messages to Smartphone
U-verse Voice Customers Benefit from More Integration, Visual Voicemail On the Go

Dallas, Texas, October 01, 2010

AT&T* today announced the launch of the AT&T Voicemail Viewer app, which lets AT&T U-verse® Voice customers easily check and manage their home phone messages with visual voicemail on their smartphone.

Much like an email inbox, the Voicemail Viewer app lists your home voicemail messages and allows you to choose the order in which you wish to listen to them. The app also provides a notification when a new voicemail arrives on your home phone, plus the ability to delete voicemails remotely. Additional features include:

The ability to mark messages as read or unread
Forward voicemails via email
One-touch click on a voicemail to return a call
View and add contacts to your smartphone address book
"This app is another example of how we're integrating our services for U-verse customers in a meaningful way," said David Christopher, Chief Marketing Officer, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. "With Voicemail Viewer, our customers can stay connected and manage their home mailbox while on the go using their smartphone. They can pick the messages they want to listen to, forward them through email, or return the call with one click. It will provide a new level of convenience."

The AT&T Voicemail Viewer app is available to U-verse Voice customers at no extra charge. For smartphone availability, visit

The problem is that I use my home phone like "the other email address." It is for filling out forms and giving to people I don't care about. I really don't want the 30 VMs a day that my home phone gets to pop up on my iPhone (or my blackberry).
