A new type of optical film has been developed by Autotype. Dubbed Autoflex MARAG, (MARAG being far too fun to say aloud) the “MothEye Anti-Reflective, Anti-Glare” screen film is based on the structure of the eyes of night-flying moths. The eyes of the moths, we’re told, have evolved to collect as much light as possible, sans reflections, so as to not tip off nearby predators. The films can be used in different displays, reducing the dependency on the angle of view and producing low reflection and high transmission results. The film can also reduce battery consumption by improving display brightness passively. Hopefully, we’ll see these on cell phones and LCD TVs before long.
