You’ve seen a glimpse of them in action, but Toho has put the bird-themed superhero outfits of the live-action Gatchaman movie’s new team outside the 109 Men’s department store in Shibuya, and my god, are they fantastic.

They’re updated without being overdesigned; they’re clearly indebted to the originals without being beholden to them; they’re not worried about being too realistic (clearly); and most of all, they just look great. I can’t even complain about the lack of the bird beaks on the helmets because the riot face-shield makes so much sense (although I fully admit I wouldn’t mind if the beaks were in addition to the shield).
