Bill Nye explains how to stop an asteroid

Bill Nye teamed up with Mitchell Moffit and Gregory Brown of AsapSCIENCE to address one of the most pressing not-if-but-when questions in recent memory: how do we stop a major asteroid from colliding with Earth?

Preventing an asteroid from hitting Earth, of course, relies on our being able to detect it far enough ahead of time. Then some sanctioning body will need to be in charge of any preventive measures. Who should be in charge of protecting Earth? Presumably some international sanctioning body, seeing as an object sizable enough could have planet-wide effects.

Then, of course, there’s the question of how to stop/deflect/avoid the actual, imminent, incoming, holy-crap-it’s-really-happening asteroid. Do we deflect it with a spaceship? Do we use nuclear devices? Do we throw Bruce Willis at it?

We’ll let Bill explain.
