Remember how elated you were when Mattel announced it would be releasing a replica of the hoverboard from Back to the Future 2? And then how sad you were when it was priced at $120? Now you can just build one yourself with this handy tutorial and about $50 worth of random supplies.

The only thing you won’t find in your workshop for this build are those awesome ‘80s-inspired neon skateboard graphics, but those are available for download from links available on YouTube so you can print them out at home.

Your replica won’t actually hover, it won’t make any sounds, and Mattel probably isn’t going to be too happy if you slap their corporate logo on your home-made prop. But with the Back to the Future trilogy returning to theaters as part of its 30th anniversary, with this tutorial you’re about halfway to a pretty decent Marty McFly costume for your local showing.
