The author behind some of the most fascinating explorations of Darth Vader in years is turning his hand to Vader’s grandson...and a few of that grandson’s sinister best friends.

Just announced at the Lucasfilm Publishing panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Darth Vader and Poe Dameron comics scribe Charles Soule will pen The Rise of Kylo Ren this December, a four-part Marvel Comics miniseries that will chart Ben Solo’s fall from the light and his ascendance as the leader of the mysterious Knights of Ren.

“You know the one story everyone’s dying to see, about Kylo and the Knights of Ren? That’s this,” wrote Soule, “You’re not ready (hell, I barely am.)“

Details about the series beyond that are being kept under wraps—not even an artist was announced at the panel—but readers can expect Luke Skywalker to have a presence in The Rise of Kylo Ren, which...isn’t all that shocking, given Luke’s involvement in the unfortunate incidents that helped push Ben to give in to his dark side. But still, this is a very intriguing lead into the arrival of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker—and given Soule’s excellent pedigree in the realm of Star Wars comics, we can’t wait to see what he has in store for Ben Solo.

The Rise of Kylo Ren begins this December.

Strider Ryoken

Everyone who complains about how this comic is filling something the movies should have covered should remember that back in 1997:

-We had no fucking idea who actually ruled the Empire.

-The Clone Wars were just a random mention.

-We didnt knew what was so great about the Millenium Falcon doing the Kessel Run under 12 parsecs.

-We had no actual idea why Obi Wan just straight up vanished after being struck by Vader.

-Vader is called a fucking Sorcerer by an actual officer of the Empire who says the Force is an ancient religion.

-We had no idea that Vader was an actual cyborg.

And so fucking on.

Stop your whining. All you need to know about the Knights of Ren in TFA was that:

A) Kylo leads them

B) That makes him powerful according to his boss.

Thats it. Seriously. Its dialogue whose function was to set up Kylo as a character and what was his status in the First Order. Nothing more.

Apply the level of nitpicking and demand for background information that people clamor for in these sequels to the original trilogy, and we end up with something like the prequels, were everything had to be answered and explained and the movies suffered for it.

I mean, where you satisfied with Midichlorians? Threepio’s origin? The actual reason for the Clone Wars getting their name? Bobba Fett’s origins? The reason why Luke and Leia ended up apart and orphaned?

Come on.
