Horror fans were already buzzing over the first collaboration between Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele, who announced late last year they’d be teaming up to produce a film called Portrait of God. Now, the film—an expansion of the short by Dylan Clark, who will also direct and co-write the feature—has an A-lister topping the call sheet in Chase Infiniti, star of The Testaments and One Battle After Another.

And there’s a new studio attached too: Lionsgate, which said in a press release that Portrait of God has officially been greenlit for production.

Clark’s feature debut, a reimagining of The Blair Witch Project, is also a Lionsgate release and has a release date of September 24, 2027. Raimi also has a Lionsgate film in the works, a modern take on Magic, the William Goldman novel that also inspired the very creepy 1978 movie starring Anthony Hopkins.

As for Portrait of God, the seven-minute short film is available on Clark’s YouTube channel and has racked up 10 million views in the four years it’s been on the platform. (You can also watch it on Vimeo.) The very brief description is “A religious girl must come to terms with her faith when she analyzes a provocative painting of God.”

The feature will certainly expand quite a bit on its source material, but we do love the “haunted artwork” horror subgenre, and Portrait of God definitely fits the bill. There’s no release date yet, but 2027’s Blair Witch is first on Clark’s to-do list.
