The Apple Airport Express (shipping this week, by the way) is a decent option for those already using iTunes, but what if you want to stream more than that? NoDRM takes a(nother) look at one option, the D-Link DSM-320 Wireless Multimedia Player, an 802.11g-enabled streaming media outlet that can stream not only audio, but all sort of different kinds of video — most of the major video formats in fact (even DVD VOB files). The only real downside they see to the $166 player is the inability to change the aspect ratio of video (which can lead to movies looking oddly smushed) and the inability of 802.11g to always provide enough bandwidth to stream video over even relatively short distances, say, from a downstairs computer to an upstairs Multimedia Player. Of course, you can always fall back on wired Ethernet.

PC Magazine had quite a few more issues with the DSM-320 when they reviewed it last month, but they also felt they were issues that could be addressed by a firmware update. In NoDRM’s review, they mention that their DSM-320 had already had at least one automatic firmware upgrade. I wonder if that fixed the problems?
