Eight years after the fiery horror of the Columbia disaster, a lost piece of the atmospheric sorrow has been discovered beneath a drought-shriveled Texan lake, CNN reports. The dilapidated, muddy orb remains a painful symbol of the cracked vessel.

NASA’s confirmed 4-foot module, which provided electricity and water to the killed crew, is indeed from the lost shuttle. NASA’s still developing a plan to retrieve the debris—but it makes you wonder what other lost space artifact is lying out there under a desiccated dirt pile. [CNN via Geekosystem]
