But each dweller has its own set of abilities, so choose wisely who goes where—you can move them at will when needed, because at first, you do with what you have.
Also, keep in mind that once you place your facilities, you won’t be able to change their location. Facilities can be combined to become more efficient, so be sure to set up specialized areas and avoid isolating a single facility in a corner.
Energy and water production are your top priorities, but the well-being of your charges is also important. You’ll need to build a cafeteria so they can eat. Then you’ll want game rooms so they can relax, a hair salon (which lets you actually change their hairstyles), and so on.
But you also need to think about survival. For example, some refugees—those with the best abilities—will also be able to use the gyms (where they can practice various sports to improve their skills). And the armory allows you to upgrade the various pieces of armor you’ve collected during your travels through hostile lands. Your best warriors can then form teams to undertake quests across the wasteland and bring back resources to improve daily life or strengthen your defenses. You must also reinforce the security of your shelter to prevent outside invasions.
Finally, the game also lets you increase the number of residents in your shelter in a more natural way… by having babies. To do this, simply move two residents (a man and a woman) into the residential quarters (which are normally empty since everyone is assigned to a specific location). After a while, if there’s a spark, the woman will become pregnant. Otherwise, you’ll have to try another pairing. The babies will grow up into children and the adults.
