Dwayne Johnson took to Instagram to announce he has officially joined Shane Black’s tale of “the world’s first superhero,” Doc Savage. The post, which you can read below, notes the actor’s excitement at playing “A F*CKING HILARIOUS WEIRDO!” Stoked for you, guy. But we have to ask: when does the Rock sleep?
The answer would appear to be “never,” considering the amount of projects he’s currently involved with (and the fact that he probably spends five to six hours a day—conservative estimate—in the gym). In addition to Doc Savage, these projects include:
A sequel to earthquake thriller San Andreas, pegged as a more global story “focusing on the infamous Ring of Fire”
HBO sports comedy Ballers, which returns for a second season this summer
Rampage, based on the 1980s monster-themed video game, from the team behind San Andreas
Spy-themed buddy comedy Central Intelligence, which is out June 17 (trailer below)
South Pacific-set Disney animation Moana, out in November
Fast 8, the next installment in the apparently endless series, due next April
Baywatch, in which Johnson plays the David Hasselhoff role; due next May
Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon, the latest in the Journey to the Center of the Earth franchise, due next June, with a Johnson-starring Journey 4 planned to follow
A Jumanji remake which sounds like the weirdest thing ever
Shazam!, with Johnson as Black Adam, not due until 2019 though the character may pop up sooner (maybe in the Justice League movie next year?)
An action movie set in a skyscraper in China, called, uh, Skyscraper
The Janson Directive, the first entry in a planned “universe of films based on the bestselling novels of Robert Ludlum”
Just a disclaimer—that list is probably incomplete, because by the time you read this, Johnson will no doubt have announced his involvement in even more movies, TV shows, signature YouTube channels, wrestling ventures, awards-show hosting gigs, and who can guess what else.
