Paul Torday's Salmon Fishing in the Yemen was one of our favorite examples of a book that's secretly science fiction — about a fisheries scientist who undertakes the mad, ambitious project of introducing salmon to the Yemen. Including all of the bioengineering (and regular engineering) that goes into that.
Now it's been made into a movie, starring Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt, from director Lasse Halstrom (What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Dear John) and writer Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire). The first real trailer is out... and it looks pretty fun. A bit more romance-oriented than I remember the book being, but that's to be expected. What do you think?
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen hits theaters on March 2, 2012. Check out the trailer in high def over at Yahoo! Movies. [via First Showing]
