The first ever image of Karl Urban as Mega City One's lawman, Judge Dredd, has emerged, and it ticks all the boxes, including the helmet and the big gun. Can it erase the memories of Sylvester Stallone?

Concept Artist Jock, who's been hard at working creating amazing concept art, story boarding and designing new characters for the new Judge Dredd film just Tweeted the first ever image from the new movie. So what do you think?

The Judge himself looks a little grittier (unhaven) than usual. It's not much to go on, but already we can see a difference between the flashy Hollywood '95 version and director Peter Travis' vision. Simply titled, Dredd, the new movie hopes to explore more of the corruption and dirt inside Mega City One. Even Dredd's creator, John Wagner, has given this movie his support (or at least says it won't be as bad as the first one).

Here's the official synopsis:

DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot - if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip.

Dredd is scheduled to be released in 2012.
