Last night’s Game of Thrones was a gamechanger for everyone involved, but it also gave fans a delightfully teasing glimpse at an infamous unseen location in Westeros: the Tower of Joy, the setting of one of the series’ most popular theories. Here’s a new video looking at how the show plans to use the Tower going forward.
As ever when it comes to Game of Thrones, there’s going to to be some spoiler-y speculation below. Tread lightly and all that.
To many, the Tower of Joy’s mere presence in the show at all seems to indicate that Game of Thrones will finally prove the long running “R&L = J” theory from the A Song of Ice and Fire books its based on—the belief that Jon Snow is not the bastard child of Ned Stark, but a child born of Lyanna Stark, Ned’s sister, and Rhaegar Targaryen, son of the Mad King Aerys. This is why, when Bran was pulled out of the flashback by the Three-Eyed Raven, practically everyone watching agreed with him when Bran yelled that he wanted to go back there. Check the video out below.
This “Inside the Episode” special, featuring insight from producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who note how they want to use Bran’s visions as a way of showing how the truth has been twisted and hidden by time. What better way to do that than to discover just who Jon Snow’s parents really are?
Tell you what, though—given how teasing the show were about it last night, I bet this particular vision of Bran’s will get stretched out over quite a few episodes.
