Gary Whitta's Howard Stark/Downton Abbey mashup script is Excellent

Well, I don't think anyone saw this coming. Book of Eli, After Earth (and upcoming Star Wars) scribe Gary Whitta has released a script imagining if the stuffy world of British drama Downton Abbey was part of the Marvel Universe - and how Tony Stark's dad would fit in with Lord Grantham and family.

Downton Abbey: The Stark Ascendancy imagines Howard Stark, years before he signed onto the Strategic Scientific Reserve, visiting the Granthams in England to secure some potential funding for his... well, let's say inventive projects.

Whitta's script - tentatively titled as Part One, hopefully there'll be more! - is short but sweet, and manages to capture the melodrama and hoity-toity-ness of Downton's characters perfectly. Even if you don't watch it, it's still fun to see Howard's disruptive presence impact on these stuffy Brits - the Marvel stuff is almost just icing on the cake.
