Anyone else as unimpressed with Gateway’s new MP3 player as we are? We’re finding it hard to get excited about their new USB Digital Audio Player, which comes in 128MB and 256MB varieties. Sure, it also double as a portable USB key drive and a digital voice recorder, but who can get by on just 128 megabytes these days? Flash memory is so cheap these days, they could have put at least 512MB on there. At $129.99 for the 128MB model, $169.99 for the 256MB, neither seems like a good value for the money. If Gateway is as serious about becoming a consumer electronics company as they say they are, they need to start coming up with some fresh ideas, and that doesn’t mean releasing yesterday’s MP3 player.
