Clooney never got to play James Bond, but if he goes after the role of Napoleon Solo in Steven Soderberh’s U.N.C.L.E. movie remake, we may finally have the Clooney spy flick we’ve always wanted.

According to The Playlist, Clooney is eyeing the lead part in pal and movie director Soderbergh’s U.N.C.L.E., not a huge surprise as these two work together on just about every Soderbergh project that they can.

But the really clever part about a remake of the James Bond-light series U.N.C.L.E. is Soderbergh’s decision to keep the series set in the 1960s. This means lots of gorgeous vintage sets, possibly treated film and Clooney in plenty of form-fitting suits. As of right now, the schedule is looking a little iffy for Clooney, but we think Soderbergh would be more than happy to move around the production schedule for an old (box office-scoring) friend.
