Something like half of all marriages end in divorce in the US. But imagine if we had the kind of system they’ve got in Tajikistan: There, husbands can divorce their wives by simply sending them a text message that says “Taloq taloq taloq” (Divorce divorce divorce.)
Apparently, a growing number of Tajik men are using cell phones to complete the “triple taloq,” which the Associated Press describes as “an Islamic ritual in which men can end a marriage by reciting the word for divorce three times.” If men can divorce their wives with a text message, then women should be able to collect child support payments via PayPal. Only fair.
