Created as a performance piece for the 2013 Interior Design Week in Cologne, Tom Pawlofsky and Tibor Weissmahr figured it was a great idea to equip an industrial robot arm with a chainsaw to carve stools out of a tree trunk.
Thanks to clever programming, the robot is able to carve the stools with absolute precision and little to no waste—just ignore the mountain of sawdust.
The stools can be purchased by audience members after each performance, and have a lovely rough hewn look to them. But everyone involved seems to be blissfully ignoring the fact that the artists have just given an incredibly powerful robot a chainsaw for a hand. [designboom]
