The newly opened KDDI Designing Studio in Tokyo's fashion-conscious Harajuku is the new king of showrooms. The beautiful glass structure, with circular platforms that give you access to the top floors, was launched earlier this month with a few events featuring the renowned UK design outfit Tomato. As for the building, you enter to a large stage area, that also features what they call a BJ (broadband jockey) booth, and some navigation help for the Harajuku/Omotesando area. The second floor is the main showroom for all the latest AU mobile phones, where you can also use interactive displays to test out their various functions. The Creation Studio on the third floor is where you can get a sneak peek at the latest concepts that KDDI is working on. They also have huge TV displays in bubble-like booths where you can play around with KDDI's "Hikari Plus TV" (FTTH). The next floor is a sort of seminar workshop room that also acts as a library with a small (but sure to grow) selection of pricey design books. The top floor, what they call the Relaxation Studio, hosts the Wired Cafe 360, in a nice garden-like setting.
