The big movie studios are going after Google, asking the search giant to stop publishing links to the DMCA takedown requests it receives as these only add to the ways people can try to find copyrighted material.
The studios, which include 20th Century Fox and NBC Universal, have asked the search giant to stop being so bloody open about the DMCA requests it receives from media companies, claiming that the DMCA requests sent to Google infringe copyright themselves by specifically referencing the files the studios want removed. Thereby creating an endless copyright-infringing loop from which there's no escape.
As well as providing its own breakdown of copyright claims received, Google's search results also list copyright removal requests via search results on the ChillingEffects database (pictured above), a site which attempts to categorise all DMCA content removal claims. [TorrentFreak]
