Here's Where Fear the Walking Dead Now Fits on The Walking Dead Timeline

Watching Fear the Walking Dead, it’s difficult to not think about what’s happening on the other side of the continent. By that we mean Atlanta, the setting of the first Walking Dead show. Fear, of course, is a West Coast prequel set some time beforehand—but they’re both in the same universe.

Now that a season and a half of Fear the Walking Dead has aired though, showrunner Dave Erickson believes the two storylines have finally lined up.

“If you marked off the days [that have passed on air since Fear the Walking Dead debuted], I think right now, by the end of the first half [of season two], we’re getting very close to Rick waking up in Georgia,” Erickson told TVLine. “[Fear The Walking Dead survivors have] arrived at a place where they’re up to speed on how one deals with the apocalypse and the dead.”

That may sound surprising, but it checks out. Fear the Walking Dead moves at a pretty slow pace, with each episode seeming to pick up pretty close to the end of the last one. Not much time has passed on the show. However, there is also no true consensus as to how long Rick was in his coma. Estimates from various writers and producers put it anywhere from two to five weeks. You have to feel like Fear has gone at least that far, if not longer.

Honestly though, it’s not like it really matters. Whenever Rick woke up, The Walking Dead will always be several years ahead. Odds of them ever crossing over seem slim.

The answer is really quite simple. Fear the Walking Dead actually takes place in an alternate universe where everyone is boring and unlikeable.

The next show will be set in a world with no shrimp.
