Well, your cellphone may not be that abusive, but if the mobile industry task force led by Nokia has its way, your cellphone might give you a gentle audible reminder that its charging cycle is done and that you can unplug it.
The task force reports that if 10% of the world's cellphone-using population unplugged their phones once they were done charging, it would save enough energy to power 60,000 households per year.
Neat idea. The group hopes to implement this feature starting next year. Let's hope it works well in Europe and spreads stateside. But wouldn't it be easier just to have the things turn off automatically? Hey, next thing you know someone will offer special audible "charge tones," available for download for $1.99.
