How to Watch Porn in Utah After SB 73 (2026 Guide)

Utah has required adult sites to check every visitor’s age since May 2023, longer than any state except Louisiana. Aylo, Pornhub’s parent company, restricted Pornhub, YouPorn, and RedTube in Utah instead of verifying ages there. Then, in 2026, lawmakers went a step further with SB 73, which tried to count VPN users in Utah as Utah visitors.

However, a federal judge suspended that clause in September. For adults, the questions are practical ones. They want to know whether watching porn is legal, which sites still serve the state, and what happens to an ID or face scan after an age check. Here’s the setup, then what the law says now.

Is Porn Banned in Utah?

No. Adults in Utah can legally watch porn. The state’s age verification laws regulate commercial websites, and none of them penalizes an adult for viewing legal material. Instead, the duty to confirm ages, along with the fines for ignoring it, falls on the sites. Some material is illegal at any age, though:

• Any sexual depiction of a minor
• Intimate images shared without the subject’s consent
• AI-made or edited intimate images of an identifiable person, shared without consent
• Distributing material that meets Utah’s legal definition of obscenity

Of course, Utah has long taken a hard line on porn, and a 2016 resolution even declared it a public health crisis. Still, that resolution created no penalties, and the restrictions adults notice today come from Aylo’s decision to limit its sites.

How to Watch Porn in Utah With a VPN

Connect to a VPN server in Colorado, or another state where Pornhub’s full site is available, then visit the site. Adult sites decide what to show based on your IP address, and a Denver server provides a Colorado IP address. For example, Pornhub showed its full site when we connected NordVPN, Proton VPN, and ExpressVPN to Denver in October.

Pornhub restricts visitors in Idaho, Wyoming, and Arizona, and Salt Lake City servers count as Utah connections. However, the site operates normally in Nevada and California, and our Pornhub access guide lists the states where it’s restricted.

What Pornhub Shows in Utah

Aylo restricted Utah in early May 2023, days before the state’s first age verification law took effect, and the restriction continues. In fact, on a Salt Lake City server in October, Pornhub showed only a member login, with new registrations closed in the region. On the same server, YouPorn, RedTube, and Tube8 were blocked. Court records also show that Aylo’s paid sites verify every user’s age.

Aylo, for its part, wants phones and computers to verify ages instead. That approach already works abroad: in the UK and Australia, Pornhub restored its full site in 2026 for iPhone users who confirm their age with Apple. However, no US state offers that setup, and Utah’s app store law, which would share age information with apps, doesn’t apply until May 2027.

What Utah’s Age Verification Law Requires

SB 287 took effect on May 3, 2023. The law applies to commercial sites whose material is more than one-third harmful to minors, a group that includes most porn sites. A covered site must confirm that each visitor is 18 or older through one of these methods:

• A digital ID card from a state-approved app
• An independent verification service that checks your details against commercial databases
• A commercially reasonable method based on public or private transaction data
• A process approved by Utah’s Division of Consumer Protection, added in 2026

Sites also may not keep identifying information once they’ve granted access. For its first three years, though, the law had no state enforcer, only the threat of private lawsuits. The adult industry’s 2023 challenge failed for the same reason: the court found no state official to sue.

Pornhub, for its part, said in 2023 that it couldn’t verify Utah visitors with the state’s mobile driver’s license, which then worked only in person.

SB 73: What the Court Blocked and What Remains

SB 73, signed in March 2026, took effect on May 6. Its location clause counted a person physically in Utah as a Utah visitor, even when they connected through a VPN or proxy. As a result, sites could be liable for Utah visitors who appeared to be in another state.

Aylo sued in April. Then, in September, Utah agreed not to enforce SB 73 against Aylo until the court ruled, as long as Aylo kept its sites restricted. On September 24, 2026, Judge David Barlow blocked the location clause. He wrote that “there is no way for a website operator to determine a user’s physical location with perfect certainty.”

He also noted that VPNs “have entirely legitimate purposes.” The case is now paused while lawmakers revisit the clause during the 2027 session, from January to March. The other rules remain in force:

• Age checks are still required under the 2023 law.
• Adult sites may not encourage or help Utah visitors use VPNs or proxies, including through instructions.
• The Division of Consumer Protection can fine a site up to $2,500 per violation, or $5,000 per violation of an order.
• A 2% tax has applied to covered sites’ sales since October 1, 2026, and most of it goes to a state account for minors’ mental health.

Porn Sites That Work in Utah (October 2026)

Aylo’s free sites are restricted in Utah, while free sites such as xHamster and Chaturbate remained and check ages. We checked the main sites through a Utah server in October. Chaturbate tells Utah visitors they must verify their age, and members who already verified can sign in instead.

Similarly, xHamster ties the check to a free account, and members don’t repeat it on later visits.

What Age Checks Collect in Utah

Utah’s statute names database checks and digital IDs, but Chaturbate’s check in Utah offered a face scan, an email check, an ID scan, or Yoti. Each verification company sets its own policies. For example, Yoti, one of Chaturbate’s methods, says it deletes face images after estimating an age. However, its app also passes advertising identifiers to ad partners and uses some face images for internal research unless you opt out.

Utah’s rule against keeping ID data is also enforced only after the fact, through fines and lawsuits. Meanwhile, breaches at companies that store IDs continue. In September 2026, IDScan.net, which scans IDs for retailers and bars, confirmed that an unauthorized party may have copied customer data.

Attackers claimed to have more than 150 million driver’s licenses. Before that, Discord’s support contractor exposed about 70,000 ID photos in 2025. Neither breach involved an adult site. Still, our guide to watching porn anonymously explains how to share less.

Is It Legal to Use a VPN for Porn in Utah?

Yes. In fact, no Utah law bans VPNs, and SB 73 never penalized the people using them. Its location clause targeted websites, and a federal court has blocked it. VPNs also protect connections on public Wi-Fi and keep browsing hidden from internet providers.

Pornhub’s full site also worked on Proton VPN’s Denver server. Proton VPN publishes its app code, and its transparency report lists hundreds of data requests since 2017, all denied. Its NetShield blocker, included with paid plans, also stopped more ads and trackers in our ad-blocking test than NordVPN’s and ExpressVPN’s blockers.

ExpressVPN made the quickest connections in our tests, and its Denver location showed Pornhub’s full site. On top of that, under its TrustedServer design, servers keep nothing on hard drives, and KPMG reviewed that design and ExpressVPN’s privacy policy in 2025.

A Denver server showed Pornhub’s full site in our tests, while Aylo’s sites remain restricted in Utah. xHamster and Chaturbate are the other option, after an age check. In either case, keep the kill switch enabled and remember that Utah’s rules on illegal content still apply.
