HP’s new e-book reader

By

Reading time 1 minute

From Hewlett-Packard, the latest in what looks like a long line of failed attempts to build a successful e-book reader. The device looks like a thin Tablet PC, and animates the turning of pages to more successfully approximate the “reading experience”. Besides the animation part, we’re not sure what distinguishes this effort from any other e-book readers we’ve seen over the years. The biggest reason why e-book readers haven’t caught on isn’t that people don’t want to read books on a computer screen (though that’s obviously part of it), it’s that no one wants to have to carry around a separate gadget just to read an e-book. I’d rather just be able to do this on a PDA or Tablet PC, which is what tons of people do already.
