If you’ve ever wondered why impala can leap nine feet into the air, these amazing images captured by amateur photographer Rob Brookes will explain it in the clearest — and most dramatic — way possible.

These photos of a failed crocodile attack were taken while Brookes was visiting Luangwa National Park in Zambia.

According to his account, a nearby elephant tried to warn the impalas of the impending strike, but to no avail. It wasn’t until the crocodile made its move that the impala — with the yellow-billed oxpeckers onboard — reacted with its swift counter move.
