Get ready for a sequel full of lens flares! J.J. Abrams, who directed 2009’s Star Trek relaunch, will be returning to direct the second film.

According to Vulture, pre-production is already underway, and the plan is to start shooting this winter. We’re glad Abrams is committed, after a long period of uncertainty during which the Trek sequel’s release date has gotten pushed back from its original June 2012 target. Here’s hoping we can still see another Trek movie sometime next year.
