When Avengers: Age of Ultron premieres on May 1st, you don't need to stay until the lights go up. Director Joss Whedon has just admitted that there will be no post-credits scene at the end... although you'll definitely want to stick around for the mid-credits scene, whatever that is.
Here's Whedon and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige talking to Entertainment Weekly:
“There will be a tag,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige clarifies. That is, there will be a short, epilogue-like scene that pops up shortly after the credits start. “But there’s not a post-post-credit scene.”
“There is nothing at the very end. And that’s not a fake-out,” Whedon says. “We want people to know so they don’t sit there for 10 minutes and then go: ‘Son of a bitch! I’ll kill them!’”
I doubt this announcement will save them from all death threats, given how important these post-credits scenes have been to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even besides the people who miss this news, there will have to be some others who think it's a trick and stick around anyways.
Still, I'm worried the mid-credits scene will just be an epilogue for the Avengers, and we're not going to get a tease for Dr. Strange, Captain Marvel or Black Panther there at the end... or even just a brief look at what Michael Douglas' Hank Pym might be up to during the events of Age of Ultron. Seems like a missed opportunity.
