Thor’s Helmet is a cosmic bubble of gas blown from a bright, massive central star. The gorgeous bubble in space is a relaxing treat for your eyes before diving back into the work week.

Thor’s Helmet Nebula is known by the far more dull moniker NGC 2359 to astronomers who aren’t cloudwatching in space. The nebula is in Canis Major, about 15,000 light-years from Earth and 30 light-years across.

The image was captured by the Very Large Telescope as part of the European Southern Observatory 50th anniversary celebration in 2012.
