Kelley Stoltz: Prank Calls

Kelley Stoltz is an American musician originally from Michigan who now lives in San Fransisco. In the 90s he worked as a fan-mail sorter for Jeff Buckley's management company, and in 2006 his first full-length album Below the Branches was released on the Sub Pop label.

Now I didn't know any of that until I looked him up on Wikipedia just now, but what I do know is I've been in love with his song "Prank Calls" ever since I heard it on Pandora in high school. Much like Pavement's Gold Soundz, there's just something inherently delightful and pleasant about this song. The lyrics just barely stay on the right side of "too cutesy", the through-a-megaphone-kinda-sorta vocals are neat, the piano solo is light and melodic, the beat is driving but not intense or overbearing. What's not to like? Give it a listen, and have a mellow Sunday evening. [Spotify, Amazon, iTunes]
