We’re not saying that NBC’s Knight Rider is necessarily in trouble of cancellation or anything, but NBC’s move to shorten the show’s first season from 21 episodes to 17 isn’t a good sign, let’s face it.

The announcement that KITT’s new home may be endangered came as NBC announced their 2009 mid-season reshuffle; besides the shortening of Knight Rider’s debut season, the Peacock network also announced a February 2nd return for Chuck and Heroes, with the latter series starting its “Fugitives” arc.

While it’s known that Knight Rider is in trouble – the show announced a mid-season retool last month in response to falling ratings despite a strong start – NBC stripping four episodes from the season suggests that it may be yet another failed revamp from the network that brought you Bionic Woman. If nothing else, here’s hoping that this means that we’re not about to see that promised David Eick unnamed SF show reboot after all.
