Those of you hoping that the prices of LCD displays would perhaps drop into something less than the near panic attack-inducing levels they’re at presently should prepare for some disappointment. A report on ExtremeTech states that, despite a worldwide supply of 193 million units and a demand of 184 million units, the overall price points for LCD displays will not move, and LCD TVs and the like will be increasingly shorter in supply. This claim is a stark contrast to Ars Technica’s [which actually links to a piece from The Register -Ed.] piece from last month which stated that “LCD prices have nowhere to go but down.” While we can only hope to see a dramatic fall off in the price of LCDs, it may simply take awhile for the added production capacity brought on this year by the various display manufacturers to take effect. Either way, we prefer to simply present to you the pending viewpoints and take your own side, as we are never biased or opinionated.
