"Affordable" for futuretastic electrostatic speakers means a few grand. I've owned a bunch of MLs over the years. They are what I'd call "polite" speakers. They are stunning for things like classical, jazz, female vocals. They are incredibly fast—just listen for the lack of sibilance when you hear breathy "s" sounds in lyrics. But I got rid of mine and have never looked back.

MLs just don't rock like dynamic speakers when you drop the needle on the Stones or Iggy. There's something visceral that is missing.
