Must-see movies are futuristic classics that shouldn’t be missed. Of course, not every must-see is perfect. That’s why we’ve rated them 1-5 on the patented “crunchy goodness” scale.

Title: Blade Runner

Date: 1982

Vitals: Harrison Ford is a “bladerunner,” special cop devoted to tracking and killing escaped Replicants, artificial humans designed for slave labor and prostitution. His world is turned upsidown when he’s sent on a final job to find a group of escaped Replicants who seem more human than their makers. Based very loosely on the Philip K. Dick novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?.

Famous names: Ridley Scott, Daryl Hannah, Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer

Crunchy goodness: 5

Design breakthrough: Scott’s cyberpunk vision of a future Los Angeles saturated in polyglot, Amerasian advertising and bathed in a constant rain of pollution was revolutionary. To this day, it remains one of the most compelling depictions of a possible future in which wealthy corporations rule all, and the environment decays into toxic muck.

Sight you’ll never unsee: Pretty much every exterior shot of the cyberpunk LA is unforgettable.

The shit: Famous composer Vangelis wrote the score for this movie, a haunting, proto-ambient soundscape.+
