Must-see movies are futuristic classics that shouldn’t be missed. Of course, not every must-see is perfect. That’s why we’ve rated them 1-5 on the patented “crunchy goodness” scale. Written by James Rocchi.

Title: Independence Day

Date: 1996

Vitals: Big-budget, low-I.Q. ’90s take on War of the Worlds that made money hand over fist even as it possessed all the brains of a sack of rocks. Sure, there’s some good destruction-porn in it, plus Bill Pullman as the President, but other than that, it’s nothing but junk.

Famous Names: Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner (Cast).

Crunchy Goodness: 1

Most Painfully Dated Moment: Jeff Goldblum uploads a computer virus into an alien starcraft … with his MacBook.

Stunt Casting: Brent ‘Data’ Spiner as the scientist in charge of Area 51.

Life Lesson: Electing a jet fighter pilot president works out just fine in the end.
