Nanoleaf sneakily released a new monitor stand over the weekend that can set your desktop ablaze with color, thanks to a strip of RGB LED lights that runs around the bottom of it. Called the Smart LED Monitor Stand, it could be a very fancy way to get your display to the proper ergonomic height for protecting your neck.
The Smart LED Monitor Stand can support displays up to 42 inches long and up to 154 pounds. It sits on two legs that raise your display by four inches and gives you some extra storage space underneath. There are five capacitive buttons on the front edge for directly controlling the stand’s lights. Overall, the form factor is certainly better than the cardboard boxes my monitors are currently sitting on.
Nanoleaf’s new stand also kills two birds with one stone. On the back, its lightstrip features a 160-degree “wall-washing angle to cast rich, gradient-filled color in your space.” I’d probably rather use it for plain white bias lighting; it sure sounds like a nicer way to achieve that than me crouching under my desk to painstakingly tape a light strip around the back edge of my desktop. The stand’s strip outputs at 550 lumens, according to Nanoleaf, with tunable white light that ranges between a warm 1,700K to a cool 6,500K temperature.
The company says the Smart LED Monitor Stand’s lights can also sync with your display to create a dynamic backlight that matches the colors on your screen. Like other Nanoleaf lights, it also features a mode where its lights react to sounds like music in your environment.
The stand is Matter-compatible, meaning you can connect to and control it from any of the major smart home platforms, like Apple Home or Google Home, although you’d only be able to do things like set a single color across the whole strip or control its brightness. You would want the smartphone or PC Nanoleaf app to achieve detailed gradients and effects. It uses Wi-Fi, Thread, and Bluetooth Low Energy to connect and is powered via USB-C.
